About the Secretariat

The secretariat to the Ocean Conservation APPG is provided by ocean conservation charity Surfers Against Sewage on behalf of all organisations and experts involved.

Surfers Against Sewage has a strong legacy of advocacy, campaigning, and change-making to protect our ocean, from tackling water quality to leading the Plastic Free Parliament campaign and empowerfign Plastic Free Communities across the UK.

The charity was responsible for the inception of the group in 2014 (formerly known as the Protect Our Waves APPG). The formation consisted of an initial group of 23 MPs and the official delivery of Surfers Against Sewage’s 55,000 signature strong Protect Our Waves petition which called for better protection of our oceans and beaches.

The secretarial function by Surfers Against Sewage is made possible through funding from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
